What is Liposana®?
Liposana® is an adipose tissue allograft designed to restore the natural protective fat layer on the bottom of the foot. It helps reduce pain and discomfort by providing immediate cushioning and structural support in areas where fat has been lost or damaged.
Who is a Candidate for Liposana®?
Liposana® may be an option for conditions caused by a damaged or missing protective fat layer, such as:
- Fat pad atrophy
- Metatarsalgia
- Plantar heel pain
- Plantar ulcers and calluses
- Post-surgical corrections
How Does Liposana® Work?
Liposana® is implanted in the area where fat has been lost or damaged to support the restorative process. This can be done right in the office.
Once in place, it provides immediate support and cushioning to the affected area.
The area may need to be offloaded (protected) for a short time to allow the implanted fat to settle properly.
Over time, Liposana® integrates and is gradually replaced by the patient’s own tissue.
Frequently Asked Questions
How soon will I see results?
Patients often report noticeable improvement in pain shortly after implantation. Improvements in skin appearance—such as callus reduction—may take more time to develop.
Is there any downtime?
Unlike surgery, Liposana® requires minimal downtime. It is typically performed in-office, and patients can return home the same day. Activity should be limited for a couple of weeks post-procedure. Weightbearing is generally allowed with offloading support as directed by a physician.
Will I need more than one treatment?
Many patients achieve lasting results with a single implantation, with outcomes supported by data up to 20 months. However, additional implantations may be recommended depending on individual response and physician assessment.
